RIG-COM 101

During incident investigation root cause analysis a common theme with rigging incidents can be attributed to lack of or misunderstanding of the correct approach to some basic rigging requirements.

Overview

Rigging Competency (Rig-Com) covers the core elements and essential knowledge required to develop competency with rigging in the modern work environment.  Personnel attending will be expected to risk assess all tasks, select and use the correct equipment for the work they will be exposed to and display the ability to use the Rig-Com knowledge in the work and surrounding areas when conducting rigging operations.

Rig-Com 101 is an introductory level Rigging Competency covering the core elements and essential knowledge required to develop your teams skill set when approaching rigging in the modern work environment.  Coupled with banksman training the sessions provide an introductory level training.

The session focuses on determining the correct size and type of rigging equipment required to safely perform lifting operations. The learning is provided in both hands on engagement sessions followed up by reinforcement in class room. All personnel attending this program will gain useful rigging techniques and skills and will leave with a broader understanding and appreciation of the requirements and responsibilities of personnel involved with rigging.

Content

This is a basic rigging course that has been designed as an introductory to personnel who have limited or no knowledge wishing to perform rigging lifting and slinging techniques.

Learning Outcomes

Attendees will have a basic understanding of rigging equipment including:

  • Knowledge of rigging equipment
  • Safe use of rigging equipment
  • Understanding the limitations of rigging equipment
  • Pre and post use inspection
  • How to identify damaged equipment

Prerequisite

  • Hold a current medical certificate of fitness
  • Read, write and speak English at an appropriate level that ensures an understanding of the course content
  • Over 18 years of age

Target Audience

The session is intended for any personnel working in industries involving lifting, rigging and slinging in a marine environment oroffshore Oil and gas.

Revalidation

Every four years with a 1-day refresher session.

All attendees will receive a certificate upon completing the course for attendance and competency based on the individual’s demonstration of knowledge skills and experience throughout the session.
